Step into a piece of living history at Xin Fang Chun Tea House, a beautifully restored 1934 tea mansion in Taipei's old Dadaocheng district, once the city's largest tea factory. This is a hands-on tea ceremony and guided tasting: you brew, you compare, and you leave actually able to tell one Taiwanese tea from another.
The tea house's own tea master opens the session by demonstrating the traditional Taiwanese brewing method — water temperature, leaf quantity, steeping time, and the order the cups are poured in. Then it's DIY: everyone brews their own from start to finish, picking up the etiquette that goes with it along the way — how the tea is poured, who is served first, and how a cup is offered and received at the table. Your English-speaking TourMeAway guide leads the rest of the session from there.
You'll taste the four classic Taiwanese teas side by side: Wenshan Baozhong, Alishan Oolong, Tieguanyin (鐵觀音), and Oriental Beauty. Your guide talks you through where each one is grown, how oxidation changes what lands on your palate, and what to look for in aroma, body and finish, with traditional tea sweets served alongside to balance each tea's character.
Then the tea sommelier game. It's a palate game, and you're on your own — everyone plays individually, using what they've just learned to pick out the character of each tea in front of them.
You'll also get an English-guided look around the mansion itself — the restored 1934 tea factory floor, the wooden interiors and the courtyard — and, if you'd like, you can slip into traditional dress for the visit: a qipao (cheongsam) or a classic Zhongshan suit for the guys. It's an optional extra rather than the point of the day, and it makes for photos that feel plucked from a different era. The outfit is yours for the session and stays at the tea house afterwards; sizes are subject to availability. The experience concludes back at Xin Fang Chun Tea House.
Dress-up is an optional bonus, and it isn't women-only: guests can pick a qipao or a men's Zhongshan suit, or skip it entirely. The outfit is worn inside the tea house and stays there afterwards. Sizes are subject to availability on the day — we'll do our best to match you on site.

Our Vintage Tour walks the same Dadaocheng streets as this tea house — herbal medicine shops, dockside markets, old shophouse architecture and a river sunset. Tea starts at 10 AM and the walk goes out in the afternoon, so both fit into one day.
